Cream together ½ cup butter or margarine, 1 cup dark brown sugar.
Mix in 1 egg, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract thoroughly.
Add ½ teaspoon soda and ¼ teaspoon salt.
Stir in 1 ¾ cups flour.
Form the dough into a roll about 2 ½” across. Wrap in waxed paper and put in refrigerator overnight or until firm.
When ready to bake:
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Cut the dough into 1/8” slices and place a little apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
This way makes crunchy cookies. If you prefer chewy cookies, pinch off Tablespoons of dough and roll it into balls before placing on the baking sheet.
